Message: One day in the Daylite Doughnut shop, I told Floyd that he was one of the nicest guys I had ever met. And he was Floyd cane to the Stuttgart Fire Dept. to play ping pong with us. One day I showed him a book on table tennis I had bought. The next week at the tournament I faced a guy with a wicked serve and lost. Floyd told me the guy who beat me might have written that book! RIP Floyd, You will definitely be missed.

I would love to see you and meet your wife. It's been so many years since i have seen you. I looked at marks funeral but never found you. My prayers are with you and your family. It's so hard to loose a father i know. It doesn't matter how old or that they had a wonderful life. I still miss my parents. I miss dad so much cuz i think i am jus like him. Message: To each of you here today, who represent Floyd’s loving family, friends, and community:
Although neither my mother, my husband, nor I are able to be with you all today, we hold this community tightly in our hearts, and send to you all, in this message, our most earnest embraces and a desire to raise a glass with you all in honor our beloved Floyd.
The phrase, “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone” is memorialized in countless words of wisdom, songs, and greeting cards, yet, when it comes to Floyd, I believe we were all keenly aware of the gift he was in each of our lives. There was no such thing as a mundane interaction with him. His love and kindness radiated through every word and action, and his influence on those around him was undeniable. It was that and more which has moved all of us to celebrate Floyd together today.
One of my fondest memories of Floyd is a sneaky way with which he would convince his grandchildren to pour a little more red wine in his cup - a trait that I see in my dad, and that my husband has already seen in me. When my husband met Floyd for the first time on a recent trip to Arkansas, the stories he came back with were all about how incredibly intriguing and welcoming Floyd was to him. And no matter how far away we always lived, there was never a birthday or holiday that passed without a phone call and a card from Floyd and his beloved wife Joan. These small things represent a small fraction of what made Floyd special, but it is these small things that we will all continue to carry with us.
Today, we try to take comfort in the peace that Floyd has found, though we are all fully aware of the loss that we all share. Some of us called him “friend,” “neighbor,”, while others called him “grandpa,” “great grandpa,” and “dad.” But no matter what we called him, each of us is better off for having known him. Floyd lives on in every single one of us, and it is our duty to ensure that the lessons he taught us, the stories he told us, his smiles, his laughter, his kindness, and his love shine through all of us so that everyone we meet can witness his legacy.
We share these words with love and pray that each of us find strength and healing in each other and in God.
