On Saturday, June 8, Roger Oliver, 88, of Humnoke entered his heavenly home. He was born and raised in Stuttgart and worked as a youngster at his family's business Oliver’s Food Bank in Stuttgart. He married Margie Morris of Humnoke in 1955 and served in the United States Air Force where he worked as an aviation mechanic.
After the Air Force the couple returned home to Arkansas and lived in Humnoke where he managed Joe Morris Exxon station for many years. Later he joined the farming operation with his father-in-law and son. Roger was a devout member of Humnoke United Methodist Church of where he served as church secretary for many years. He also served several terms as mayor of Humnoke. In his younger years, he loved photography and going to Oaklawn and poker games with his friends.
He was preceded in death and now reunited in with his wife Margie of 49 years who he adored; their infant daughter; his parents, Henry and Effie Mae Oliver; three brothers; and four sisters.
He is survived by son, Richard “Pip” Terry (Barbara) of Humnoke; daughter, Rhonda McCarty (Tracy) of Humphrey; brother, Dennis Oliver (Margaret) of Stuttgart; five grandchildren, Amiee Mills (Brian) and Emily Shaw (Robert) of Carlisle, Joey Terry ( Deidre) of Stuttgart, Josh McKee of Hot Springs and Jared McKee of Humnoke; 10 great-grandchildren, Turner, Hanna Beth and Sawyer Moody, Graycen, Gauge and Owen Shaw and Ashby, Ansley, Ayden and Avery Terry. He adored all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they loved their “Popie”.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart and services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Humnoke United Methodist Church. Graveside service will follow at Hamilton Cemetery.
