Gladys Louise Fore Ragland, 88, of Stuttgart, gained her angel wings on Aug. 27, 2020 at Springhill Baptist Hospital in North Little Rock. Born in Keo, AR on Feb. 8, 1932 to James Walter and Mattie Cecil Prince Fore, she and her family later moved to Stuttgart where she graduated from Stuttgart High School and worked as a telephone operator before marrying and focusing on raising her family. She was the quintessential mother - always putting others’ needs before her own.
Playing and watching tennis was a lifelong passion for Gladys. She started playing in high school, in mixed doubles for years at the Stuttgart Country Club, in a statewide women’s doubles league that competed in many tournaments, and ending in a weekly senior women’s league at the Little Rock Racquet Club until she was in her late 70’s. She also loved watching and rooting for the Razorback football and basketball teams. She was also an active member of the Arkansas County Master Gardeners Club for many years.
Gladys was preceded in death by sons, Charles Burt and Frederick Brett Ragland; her parents, and brothers Charles “Lindy” Fore and J.W. “Jim” Fore. Survivors are her loving husband of 65 years, Fred Ragland, Jr., daughter Rebecca Walker, brother-in-law Burt Ragland, all of Stuttgart; sisters-in-law Peggy (Don) Loveless of Tulsa, OK, and Khamla Fore of Savannah, GA, six nieces and five nephews. She was also loved and will be missed by her longtime caregivers, Willie Mae Casey and Vinnie Gamble.
A service by Turpin Funeral Home will be held at a later date. The family requests memorials to the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie, 921 E. Fourth St., Stuttgart, AR 72160, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 (www.alz.org).
