Jimmy Ray Sherman, 76, of Bismarck, formerly of Humphrey, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, at CHI St. Vincent’s in Hot Springs.
Jim Ray was born Feb. 3, 1945, in Pine Bluff to Hoyle and Mary Geneva Sherman. He had a passion for farming, something he had done for over 50 years that was more like a way of life for him. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where is had served as a deacon. He was also a former board member of Producer’s Rice Mill and served on the Humphrey School Board until the school merged with DeWitt. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks, who loved to hunt but his greatest joy was his family.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Billy and Pauline Durden; sister-in-law, Kathryn Sherman; brothers-in-law, Tommy Bogy and Calvin Hall; and a great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Murray.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Billie Jean Sherman; son, Kie Sherman and wife Ann of Humphrey; daughter, Kimberly Murray and husband Theron of Benton; two brothers, Eugene Sherman of Humphrey and Ronnie Sherman and wife Cindy of Stuttgart; sisters-in-law, Patricia Mondy (Larry) of Bryant and Becky Hall of Gary, Ind.; brother-in-law, Carlos Durden of Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Krystin Murray, Tanner Daulton, Kimberly Murray (Brian), Madison Gandy (Chris), Kielee Sherman, Taryn Murray, Carson Sherman and McKenna Murray; four great-grandchildren, McKynlee Henderson, Gipson Daulton, Evie Garcia and Wesson Murphy; several nieces and nephews; a close family friend, George House.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Frazier Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials to Make-A-Wish in honor of Landon Sullivan or Tourette Syndrome Foundation.
