Melvin Don Underwood, 82, of Stuttgart passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart.
Mr. Underwood was born April 3, 1936, in Bay, Ark., to Darrell and Kirby Womack Underwood. A graduate of Bay High School, he received an Agriculture Business degree from Arkansas State University and was also a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Banking. A former senior vice-president at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Stuttgart, he retired as president of One Bank in Hot Springs and Little Rock. He was a Mason, Shriner and member of First Baptist Church in Stuttgart.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Betty Rowland Underwood; son, Donny (Tanya) Underwood of Marion, Ark.; daughter, Sherri Renaud of Hot Springs; mother-in-law, Ruth Rowland of Des Arc; sisters, Shelby Higgins of South Bend, Ind., and Sarah Gerber of Atlanta, Ga.; half-brother, Joe (Valarie) Underwood of Trumann, Ark.; four grandchildren, Mari Jordon (Marcus) Iezzi, Hanna (Justin) Harwell, Natalie Renaud and Holly Brooke Renaud; and one great-grandchild, Trig Rudick.
Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Sam Roberts, are 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with visitation one hour before. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Ethel by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
