George Calvin Young, Jr. (Junior), 92, of Stuttgart passed away Monday, April 1, 2019, surrounded by family at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Carolyn; two sisters, four brothers, son and granddaughter.
Junior was born May 9, 1926, in Casscoe, Arkansas, a son of George and Lola Young. He grew up in nearby Ulm and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon returning from his military duties he started his career as a blacksmith, a skill he learned from his father. In 1989, he retired from his blacksmithing and he and his wife started a business of cleaning and dressing ducks for local hunters and duck clubs. Junior was fortunate to live a full life and had a larger than life personality that few who met him, could ever forget.
Junior is survived by his daughter Lisa King; three sons, Bobby Lawson, Gary Lawson and Steve Lawson; and a beloved nephew and lifelong friend, Corky Meins. He leaves behind three grandsons, Scott Lawson, Aaron Davis and Jonathan King; four granddaughters, Casie Franks, Stacy Ayers, Jamie Sanchez and Stephanie King; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Turpin Funeral Home with a burial to follow at the Lone Tree Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributes can be made to the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie or the Stuttgart Senior Citizens Center.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses of the VA MICU and Dr. John Gocio for all the care and comfort he received during his final days.
