Gene Garrison, 87, of Stuttgart, former Arkansas County Sheriff,
died Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Crestpark-Stuttgart.
Mr. Garrison was born December 31, 1929, in Batesville, Ark., to
Ola Pete and Jessie Mae Whaley Garrison. Garrison began his law
enforcement career in 1961 as an Arkansas State Trooper before
being elected as Arkansas County Sheriff in 1968, a position he
held for 20 years. His hobbies included hunting and fishing and
he loved county and western music. Garrison was also former
owner of G&B Liquor Store. He was a member of Brahman
Association, Arkansas County Fair Board, Arkansas Sheriff’s
Association, Arkansas State Trooper Association and member of
Arkansas Sheriff’s Boy’s Ranch. He was a veteran of the Army.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife,
Nina Ellis; second wife, Betty Garrison; grandson, Joshua
Garrison; brother, Charles Garrison; and sister, Nadine
Survivors are son, Terry Gene Garrison of Batesville; daughter,
Tina Ann Garrison of Batesville; two grandchildren, Jeremy
Harmon of Austin, Ark., and Amy Holstine of Viola, Ark.; six
great-grandchildren; and special friend/companion, Clara Lusk of
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home
with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will follow
in Lone Tree Cemetery.
His family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Sheriff’s
Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 3964, Batesville, Ark. 72503; or a
memorial of the donor’s choice.
