  (Ret. Army Lt. Col.) William Edward Berg Jr.

 

(Ret. Army Lt. Col.) William Edward Berg Jr., 85, of Stuttgart passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Cavalier Health Care in England.

 Mr. Berg was born January 25, 1932, in Stuttgart to William Edward Berg Sr. and Mildred Zimmerman Berg. A graduate of Stuttgart High School, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Park College and a Masterís degree from West Texas State University. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he retired in 1974 from the U.S. Army after 22 years. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a District Deputy of 4th Degree American Legion and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David Berg and Mark Berg; brothers, Carl Luebker and Bob Berg; and sisters, Theresa Shultz, Margaret Ann Pitts and Rita Roller.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Elaine Chastain Berg; son, Army Lt. Col. Paul Berg and wife Tanya of Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.; three brothers, Herman Luebker of Russellville, Thomas Luebker of Wisconsin and Joe Luebker of Pine Bluff; four sisters, Mary Grace Shelton of Jacksonville, Mitzi Kelly of Russellville, Christine Yurkovich of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Rozan McKinney of Searcy; and four grandchildren, William Berg, Joshua Berg, Logan Berg and Kaela Berg.

Funeral Mass, officiated by Father Clayton Gould, is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with burial following in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Visitation is 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday with Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home.
