On the morning of Jan. 21, 2023, Donald “Donny” Owens, originally from Stuttgart, died at the age of 61 from complications of COPD. At the time of his death, he resided at Amberwood Health and Rehab in Benton.
Donny was born to Delbert and Ruby Owens in 1961. He was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at age 12, then two years later was involved in a motorcycle accident. Because of Muscular Dystrophy and the motorcycle injuries, he never left his parents’ home. He attended high school in Stuttgart. He lived at several of the area nursing homes after the death of his mother.
Donny never met a stranger and had a memory for the 1970’s that nobody could match. He could recall people and events that everyone else had long forgotten. He had a good sense of humor and loved to visit, especially when there was plenty of laughter.
Donny accepted Christ as a young man and was of the Baptist faith. He loved to sing gospel hymns during church services at Springbrook Health & Rehab.
Donny is preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Ruby Owens and his grandparents, John and Della Owens and Sidney and Hedy Dubert.
He is survived by brothers, Dennis (Tracey) Owens of Strawberry and David Owens of Jacksonville; sisters, Kay Hornibrook and Karen (Terry) Coats of Carlisle; nieces, Amy Rider, Ashley Rutherford, Jessica Owens, Jennifer Mateuz and Haven Hornibrook; nephews, Chad Owens and Spencer Owens; and a host great nieces and nephews and special longtime friends.
A memorial service, officiated by Bro. Gregg Greenway, will be held at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
