Joseph J. “Jay” Karkur Jr., 76, of Stuttgart passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart. He was born Jan. 30, 1948, to Joseph J. Karkur Sr. and Clara Beth Koch Karkur who preceded him in death.
Jay was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and attended Auto Mechanic Trade School. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was employed by Layne Arkansas as an underground pipe specialist. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Barbara Karkur; two daughters, Jamie Wheeler and husband Don and Mindy Cook, all of Stuttgart; brother, Ralph Karkur (Tracy) of Stuttgart; sister, Mitri Greenhill (Bobby Joe) of Stuttgart; and four grandchildren, Carson Wheeler, Carter Wheeler, Hannah Cook and Hayden Cook.
The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the UAMS Neurology Department.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Turpin Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 2 p.m.
The family requests memorials to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
