June Elizabeth Browning (Hiatt), known to many as MeMaw, of Stuttgart, Arkansas, passed away on December 2, 2022, at 92 years of age.
She was born on September 6, 1930, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, to Leland and Zelma Hiatt. She graduated from Stuttgart High School. While attending college classes, she met the love of her life, the handsome Marcus Browning I, in his crisp Army uniform on a Greyhound bus. They later married on March 3, 1957, in Stuttgart. June spent the next many years as a proud military wife living and raising her family on various army bases around the country. She loved gardening, bird watching, taking long walks, and singing in the choir in church. She was a Christian and professed her faith in Jesus.
Left to cherish her memories are her four children, Marcus Browning II, Nila Leder, Laura White and Tammy Callahan; one sister, Betty Jones; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Browning I; two brothers, Carl Hiatt and Leland “Sonny” Hiatt, Jr.; her son-in-law, Freddie Leder; one grandchild, Kyler Browning; and one great-grandchild, Dee James Stephens.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 5, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home Chapel, 1107 W. 22nd St, Stuttgart, 72160, with Mike Matos officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Pallbearers for the service will be Phillip Leder, Christopher White, Kohlman Matos, Stanley Lovett and Michael Stephens. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Stephens, Jr. and Noah and Abel Yancey.
