Virbell Carnahan

Virbell Carnahan, 101, of Stuttgart passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at Baptist Health-Little Rock.

Mrs. Carnahan was born April 30, 1922, in Little Rock to Emmitt and Dell Curtner Stone. At age 5, her family moved to Casscoe. Her father bought land and farmed for many years. They had a large vegetable garden, fruit trees and lots of animals. Mom said they lived off the bounty from their farm, fresh meat, eggs and vegetables from the garden. Her mother made all their clothes and because of her mother’s love of flowers, they had a wonderful flower garden. Fresh bouquets were often found in their small farm home.

As a young adult she worked at the Stuttgart Air Base where she met her husband Teddy Carnahan. At the time he was enlisted in the Army. They were married and after finishing his time serving our country, they moved to Memphis for two years. Their next move was back to Stuttgart where they continued to live and raise their family.

During her employment career, she worked as manager of a local dress shop, local motel and a washeteria, as well as in the cafeteria at Buerkle Street Elementary School. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Carnahan; infant daughter, Ona Dell Carnahan; and a sister, Vonda Mae Condry.

Survivors are son, Gary Carnahan of Stuttgart; daughter, Kaye Baden and husband Marvin of Stuttgart; daughter-in-law, Karen Carnahan of Stuttgart; six grandchildren, Wesley and Amy Baden, Greg and Rose Baden and Jon and Kelly Carnahan, all of Little Rock, Todd and Lisa Carnahan of Mt. View, and Dustin and Monica Carnahan and Brandon Carnahan, all of Texas; 12 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
